Try a Podcast with Students
I love Spotify as a podcast platform! Spotify, and the resources that you can find on Spotify, is actually the inspiration for today’s episode. I want to tell you about a podcast that I’ve been listening to for the past couple months that inspired this idea of “Forget A Debate, Try A Podcast With Students Instead.”
So, this podcast is called The Hottest Take, and it is a podcast that’s actually exclusive to Spotify. That’s why it’s kind of a funny connection to my trip to the Spotify office last week, and then sharing this with you (today!) on the following Tuesday. But The Hottest Take is not a podcast designed for students or for teachers.
It’s a podcast that is really all about someone taking a position, having a “hot take” on a topic, even something a little silly at times, and supporting their opinion, bringing it to the table, and then having a couple other people challenge them or agree with them. And it’s really all about whoever had that “hottest take” to begin with, and whether or not they can convince the other people in the room that they are on the right side, or that they should feel the same way too.

So let’s make this EdTech easy…
1. Have students take a position on an issue, or decide on a “hot take”
2. Provide time for students to research and anticipate counter arguments
3. Choose a recording tool, like Soundtrap or another favorite
4. Have students record their conversation, and share it with a big or small audience
