5 Favorite Print and Digital Halloween Books

Are you ready for Halloween? Finding the perfect Halloween books can be a challenge – regardless of the devices you and your students use as readers. I’ve collected a handful of print and digital Halloween books to share with students, colleagues and families.

How can you use this list? Choose one or two to introduce to students in a read aloud or add these to your wish list as you refresh seasonal book bins in your classroom library. You might want to have students snap a picture of the cover of a book with a tablet and record a reflection or simply share this list with families in a newsletter.

In this list I included a few activities you might incorporate with a read aloud of the books listed below. Students might record video reflections they read or create shareable exit slips to tell the story of their learning. If you have a favorite to add to this list, leave a comment below.

5 Favorite Print and Digital Halloween Books

Llama Llama Trick or Treat (Board Book and Kindle)

If you’re familiar with the Llama Llama series you’ll love this Halloween-themed option for early readers. It includes colorful illustrations, rhyming text and is available as board book and a Kindle download. After reading this book, students might create their own illustration modeled after the pictures in the book.

The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat (Paperback and Kindle)

This popular series is now available as an eBook in addition to the paperback version you might already know and love. These classic characters take part in Halloween adventures in this holiday-themed text. You might ask students to respond to what they’ve read by writing a story of their own real or imagined Halloween adventure.

Clifford’s Halloween (Hardcover, Paperback and Kindle)

Perfect for early readers or to share with students as a read aloud, Clifford jumps into a Halloween adventure with his friends. This book might spark conversations around Halloween and how students celebrate this holiday.

The Pumpkin Book (Hardcover and Audio CD)

I love Gail Gibbons and this book is a terrific informational text to introduce during fall. Students will learn all about pumpkins in this beautifully illustrated text. You might introduce this book with a connection to a narrative selection.

Room on the Broom (Hardcover, Paperback Audio CD, Board Book and Kindle)

This book comes in lots of formats. So it gives you plenty of options to choose from when it comes to sharing with students. In this book the witch goes on her own adventure along with a handful of friends who show up on the scene. I love the idea of taking a spin on a traditional character your students might already know. It’s great for predictions too!
