Last month on the blog I featured Girls Go CyberStart, a special cybersecurity and coding competition for high school girls. This competition is an excellent choice for after-school clubs and classes focused on computer science. Coding in the classroom can take many forms, and I love how this challenge connects to careers that students might not know much about.
Girls Go CyberStart is an organization that encourages high school girls to explore topics related to coding, computer science, and cybersecurity. Their engaging online platform provides students with interactive digital challenges. Each challenge is designed to help students learn skills related to cybersecurity.
Online Coding Competition
The Girls Go CyberStart program includes hours of videos, challenges, and quizzes. The learning modules built into this online platform will help your students learn a variety of coding concepts. As a facilitator, you can use the program within your current classes or as an extracurricular activity.
How does the competition work? There are three main stages to Girls Go CyberStart and you can learn about all of them on this registration page. It’s also totally free to join!
First, individual students or clubs of students can participate in an online tryout called CyberStart Assess. This part of the program runs through April 12th and the assessment gives students access to interactive challenges. Students will learn about threats faced by people who work in cybersecurity every day.
