This past spring I shared TypeTastic School Edition, a keyboarding tool for students. Well a couple of things happened since this post went live. Just a few weeks after I shared TypeTastic I met their team at ISTE in San Antonio. This passionate, energized group have released some updates this summer and I’m exited to share these new features with you. Just last week a teacher sent me an email looking for a recommendation for a keyboarding tool for her students. It seems like the perfect time to share a few new features from the folks at TypeTastic!
Keyboarding Practice Adventures
If you haven’t heard of it before, TypeTastic School Edition is a keyboarding practice platform for elementary school-aged students. They focus on presenting keyboarding in a series of games for students to master as they work through different activities. It is accessible on web-browsers so it’s perfect for students on PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, and tablets. If your students are on tablets they also have the option to connect through an external keyboard to practice their typing with this online tool.
TypeTastic Activities
Since the last time I shared TypeTastic the team behind this tool has extended the free use of their ad-free edition for schools and removed the expiration date. Also, new games have been released and the Chapter 2 of their game is now ready for students. The first new game, Astro Bubbles, is based on the classic bubble shooter concept. In the second new game, Ducky Trouble, a hedgehog is on a mission to take home the little ducklings who are playing in the mine tunnels.
The team at TypeTastic created these games to help kids to coordinate their eye and finger movements so that they can tap a key at the right moment while looking up on the game area. The ad-free edition is totally free for schools and home schools too. By signing up, their team has guaranteed that you will get a full access for free at least until the end of the school year 2017-2018, possibly beyond.
