During the month of May, there is a special week dedicated to appreciating teachers. Ways to Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week
This year has been especially trying for educators worldwide, and although we can all agree that one week isn’t quite enough, this first week in May gives us a particular time to celebrate. You might try out all three of the ways listed below to help celebrate teacher appreciation week this year. Let’s dive into the list.
Post a Special Message
If you are working with a team of teachers or have a colleague you’d like to celebrate this year, you can post a special message just for them or for the world to see. You might set up a virtual space using your school’s learning management system (LMS) and encourage colleagues to post words of appreciation and encouragement for one another. You can also bring students into the equation by giving them an opportunity to post a special message, too.
Here are a few prompts you might use with colleagues or students who want to post a message of appreciation:

- One special memory from this year is _________
- This person had a significant impact on me this year because ________
Reach out to Local Organization
Another way to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week this year is to reach out to a local organization. If you are teaching in person, you might see if a local organization wants to sponsor a breakfast or special lunch spread for your teachers. If your teachers work remotely, you might find an organization that would like to donate gift cards to a local restaurant or a place that offers delivery.
And of course, if you’re not sure who to ask, you might want to reach out to organizations connected to your school community. This could include a place that is walkable to your school and your colleagues often frequent. Or you might know of a family in your school community who might want to offer a special donation.
