It’s warming up here in the northeast. But I felt a chill as I watched these fantastic 360 videos from LIFE VR. With this collection of four video clips you can introduce students to a Mount Everest virtual reality experience. Students will follow the journey of climbers from preparation at home to making it up the mountain.

You can watch each video of the special Mount Everest virtual reality series straight from LIFE VR’s website or on the iOS or Android app. If you view the content on the mobile apps you’ll want to invest in one of these super inexpensive Google Cardboard which is available on Amazon for under $10 and ships for free if you have Amazon Prime.
It’s exciting to see how virtual reality is now a storytelling tool. This past year I’ve shared lots of favorite resources for teachers using Google Cardboard in their classroom. Each LIFE VR video is perfect for viewing on a web browser too. You can also watch these videos with a headset. So if your students are using Chromebooks or you have an interactive whiteboard in your classroom, you can still share these clips with your class.

How could you use the Mount Everest virtual reality videos in your classroom? If you’re diving into a book like Into Thin Air in literature circles or Top of the World as read aloud, these videos can help set the stage for student reading explorations. If you’re focused on topics like biomes, environmental stewardship, or economics, there are also connections to Mount Everest.
